Firies engineer Richard Browne is on the brink of securing the FIA World Rallycross title with Johan Kristoffersson.
The Swedish driver took a semi and final win at last weekend’s penultimate round in Spain. He now has a 27-point advantage over title rival Mattias Ekström – with a maximum of 30 available at each of the remaining two rounds – which are scheduled for Belgium on the weekend of November 21 and 22.
Browne is an engineer with Volkswagen Motorsport in Germany and is the lead engineer on Kristoffersson’s Volkswagen Polo.
Rival Timmy Hansen also has a mathematical chance of a second title, although he currently trails Kristoffersson by 56 points.
“The pace on the final was also really impressive, and enough to take the win,” Browne told Kerry Motorsport News. “Now we lead the championship by 27 points. A great effort by the whole team because these double headers are gruelling.”
