Local rally cars were given the opportunity to come out of their extended hibernation on Saturday night’s Spa/ Fenit Community Council’s Heritage Day Road Run.
Over 70 cars left Churchill on Saturday evening and followed a route to Fenit, The Spa, Tralee, Ardfert, Ballyheuige, around Kerry head and and back to Churchill.
Road legal rally cars, some of which have not seen the light of day since last November’s Rentokil-Initial Killarney Historic Rally were allowed to take part in the run and several local rally drivers decided to make use of the opportunity.
Martin Quirke wheeled out his Talbot Sunbeam last seen doing 00 duties on the November rally.
Ray O’Neill pulled out his immaculate Ford Escort Mk2 , another local car which has not been on the road since March.
The Miltown-based driver was all set to contest the West Cork Rally but with the national shutdown announced on March 12, two days before the Clonakilty-based event, he was forced to return the car to garage where it has remained for the last six months.
Local man Brendan Brosnan, who was also on the organising committee of the run, entered his historic-specification Ford Escort Mk1 in the run.
