Coyne’s British championship debut is this weekend
Local motorcycle racer Kevin Coyne’s race schedule for his British Superbike Championship debut this weekend has been revealed.
The Farranfore-based Kawasaki rider will contest the HEL Performance British Junior Supersport championship season-opener at Donington Park in Leicestershire this weekend.
The HEL Performance British Junior Supersport Championship will feature at eight BSB rounds this season and is aimed as an entry-level class for riders aged 13 -22 years-old competing on production machines from 300cc – 500cc.
Coyne,18, is the first Kerry rider to attempt the series. His weekend will get underway with a free practice session on Friday and will be followed by qualifying at 1655hrs on Saturday.
His two races are set for 1020hrs and 1720hrs on Sunday. Each race will be run over 25 laps of the 3.18km track.

“We are going there to do our own thing,” his father Mark said. “A top 20 result will be a great result for us. We have no benchmarks and the only ones we are watching are ourselves.”
On Monday next, the team will head to Snetterton, in Norfolk, the venue for round two of the championship. That event will take place on August 21-23 but Coyne has secured a test session at the track next week to help him prepare for his second British Junior Supersport event.
