Kerry Motorsport News is saddened to learn of the passing of Brian Patterson. The larger than life character was Mr Rally to so many people.
He passed away today after a short illness.
Brian Patterson’s contribution to Kerry, Irish, British and indeed world rallying is immeasurable.
He was a regular visitor to Kerry and, through his colourful and insightful bulletins he kept legions of fans informed.
Prepared by Brian and his wife Liz, who was always by his side, the famous bulletins were far ahead of their time, and with their unique humour and unquestionable knowledge, the Patterson bulletins were an essential part of rallying for years.
Brian Patterson also introduced a host of local drivers and co-drivers to the dark art of pacenotes, he was the first commercial supplier of notes in Ireland and provided for all Kerry events including the Circuit of Kerry, Rally of the Lakes , Kerry Winter Rally, the Killarney Historic Rally as well as the now discontinued Killarney Forestry Rally.
He was also great company and any words produced here would fail to do him justice – instead we have reproduced – in his own words – a random selection of bulletins from several Kerry rallies over the years.
