Paul McMahon has been officially elected as the new President of the South West Road Racing Club following a high-energy Annual General Meeting in Athea. McMahon, taking over the leadership at a critical juncture for the sport, used his first address to outline a professional “business-led” vision for the club. Highlighting the changing dynamics of Irish road racing, McMahon’s strategy focuses on strict corporate governance, adherence to the 2014 Companies Act, and securing representation at both local and national government levels.

The new President emphasized that while the heart of the club remains in the racing, the “business side” must be modernized to protect the entity from liabilities and ensure financial sustainability. As part of this overhaul, the club plans to build the South West Road Racing Club into a standalone brand, putting the village of Athea back on the map as a premier racing destination. McMahon will work alongside veteran race organizer Paul Power to ensure that while the business structure evolves, the racing itself remains in expert hands.
