In a move to protect the club’s public image and internal harmony, new South West Road Racing Club President Paul McMahon has announced plans to phase out official WhatsApp groups. Speaking at the club’s recent AGM, McMahon was candid about his dislike for the platform, citing its history of being used to air personal grievances and its vulnerability to out-of-context screenshots. He argued that the instant-messaging culture often provides an easy outlet for “keyboard warriors” and does little to enhance the professional image of a sporting organization.

To replace the informal groups, the club will implement a more structured communication plan. This includes the introduction of a “Members Liaison Officer” who will act as a direct bridge between the general membership and the Board. Additionally, the club has guaranteed the return of monthly meetings—available in person and via live stream—to ensure transparency. While members are free to maintain private chats, official club business and board news will no longer be disseminated through WhatsApp, moving instead to formal channels to ensure context and professionalism are maintained.
