Derry-Kerry Duo Seek Missing Piece of Tarmac Puzzle

Four-time Rally of the Lakes champions Callum Devine and Noel O’Sullivan are seeking the missing pieces of their Irish Tarmac Rally Championship puzzle in Galway this weekend.

Driving the same Škoda Fabia Rally2 that they drive to victory in Killarney last May, they are the top seeded crew for this weekend’s Corrib Oil Galway International Rally.

While the Derry driver and Muckross co-driver are the reigning 2025 Irish Tarmac Champions, the Galway International Rally remains one of just two Irish international rallies the pairing have not won.

The partnership, which began at the 2022 Rally of the Lakes, has seen them win every round of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship except for Galway and the West Cork Rally and this weekend’s event serves as the opening move in an effort to finally conquer the technical, stone-wall lined stages of the West.

Seeded at number eight, Rockfield co-driver Shane Buckley, joins Donegal’s David Kelly in a brand-new Škoda Fabia RS Rally2.

Buckley and Kelly are no strangers to working together, having previously campaigned a Volkswagen Polo R5 in Sligo and secured fifth-place finishes on the Lakeland and Bushwhacker forest rallies last year.

The entry list also features Tarbert’s Mossie Costello in his Ford Fiesta Rally4 and Kenmare’s Shane McCarthy with his Honda Civic.

The rally marks the beginning of the 2026 international season, with the Eyre Square ceremonial start on Friday night providing the first look at new machinery before the crews head into the Saturday morning stages.
