The two main governing bodies for motorsport in Ireland are set to receive a boost in financial support following a national funding announcement today. The allocations are part of a record €33.36 million in core funding for sporting organisations in 2026, provided through Sport Ireland.
Motorsport Ireland has been allocated €255,000, marking an increase from the €240,000 received in 2025. Similarly, Motorcycling Ireland will see its funding rise to €60,000, up from the €55,000 allocated last year.
The announcement was made at the Sport Ireland Campus by Patrick O’Donovan, Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, alongside Charlie McConalogue, Minister of State with responsibility for Sport and Postal Policy. This year’s total investment in 57 National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) amounts to €19.5 million, which is a €1.2 million increase over 2025 levels.
A new multi-annual funding model is being introduced for 2026. This system is designed to act as a baseline for the next three years, allowing organisations to improve their long-term planning, workforce stability, and strategic use of resources.

Minister O’Donovan stated that the investment represents a commitment to strengthening the foundations of Irish sport and recognises the central role these governing bodies play in community impact and performance. Investment in Local Sports Partnerships has also increased by 5.9%, with a total of €12.66 million allocated across 29 partnerships nationwide.
