Dates confirmed for return of Athea Road Races
Motorcycle road racing will return to Athea in September 2026, with Motorcycling Ireland confirming the dates for the South West Road Races to the local organising club this week.
The event is scheduled to take place over the weekend of September 12 and 13, marking the long-awaited revival of road racing on the Athea circuit after a lengthy absence. The confirmation allows the South West Road Races committee to formally begin preparations for the event, which will run over two days on closed public roads.

The September date places Athea firmly back on the national road racing calendar and gives riders, teams and officials clarity as planning begins for the 2026 season. The organisers have also confirmed that entry forms are expected to be released by the end of April.
The return of the races is expected to generate strong interest locally and nationally, with the Athea roads set to once again host high-speed competition in front of large crowds. The event will rely on the continued support of volunteers, residents and local businesses, all of whom play a key role in staging road racing safely.
