World Premiere for New Opel Astra and Sports Tourer in Brussels
Opel has officially unveiled the new Astra and Astra Sports Tourer at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show. The latest evolution of the compact class bestseller was revealed by Opel CEO Florian Huettl at the Brussels Expo, marking the first major international automotive event of the year.

The new model features a significant styling update, most notably the introduction of the illuminated Opel Blitz logo at the centre of the Vizor front face. This is complemented by a new Opel Compass lighting signature, mirroring the design language recently introduced on the new Grandland SUV.
A major technical highlight of the new Astra is the class-leading Intelli-Lux HD lighting system. Developed by engineers in Rüsselsheim, the system uses over 50,000 individual elements to provide high-precision illumination. According to Opel, the system is designed to light up the road, traffic signs, and pedestrians with extreme accuracy without dazzling oncoming traffic.
The manufacturer has also placed a heavy emphasis on sustainability with this update. The exterior of the vehicle now completely avoids the use of chrome elements, replacing them with light-based styling. Inside the cabin, all seats are manufactured from 100% recycled materials. The patented Intelli-Seats, featuring an ergonomic recess for improved comfort, are now included as standard from the entry-level variant upwards.

The new Astra range offers a wide variety of powertrain options for Irish drivers. These include traditional combustion engines, a 48-volt hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid. The all-electric Astra Electric has also received an update, now offering an increased driving range of up to 454km (WLTP).
