Boland set for record 21st Monte Carlo Rally start

Eamonn Boland will make his 21st start on the Rallye Monte-Carlo when the 2026 event gets underway next week, extending an already unmatched Irish record on the WRC season opener.
Boland’s involvement with the Monte Carlo Rally dates back over three decades, with the Wexford driver returning year after year to tackle the event’s demanding mix of dry asphalt, ice and snow-covered mountain roads.
His 21 starts place him among the most experienced competitors ever to contest the rally.
It is believed this is a record for the legendary event with French driver Francois Delacour the only other driver anywhere close
Long-time co-driver Mick “MJ” Morrissey will again sit alongside Boland, marking his own 16th appearance on the event.
Speaking ahead of the rally, Morrissey said: “21 this time. He must have the record now, Delacour hasn’t been out with a couple of years. This is my 16th now. Can’t believe it.”
