While the new Astra range took centre stage for its world premiere, Opel has utilised the Brussels Motor Show to signal its future performance direction with the debut of the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept.
The high-performance concept car has been given a prominent position on the Opel stand to underline the manufacturer’s ongoing commitment to the small car segment. According to Opel CEO Florian Huettl, the Corsa remains a cornerstone of the brand’s identity, supported by recent registration statistics from the Federal Motor Transport Authority which confirm the model continues to lead the compact market in several key European regions.

The GSE Vision Gran Turismo serves as a design study for future electrified performance models. It moves away from traditional styling by ditching external chrome in favour of the “Opel Compass” lighting signature and an illuminated version of the Vizor front face. This mirrors the design language seen on the new production Astra and Grandland models, suggesting that future GSe performance variants will rely on light-based branding.
The concept is displayed alongside the current production Corsa to demonstrate the evolution from the current road car to the brand’s vision for high-performance electric motoring. Opel engineers have indicated that the focus for future small cars will remain on weight efficiency and driver engagement, even as the brand transitions to fully electric platforms.
