Kerry riders cautious despite Masters calendar release
Kerry-based motorcycle racers remain sceptical about the 2026 season, despite Mondello Park confirming a full calendar of events with the release of dates for the Masters National Motorcycle Racing Championship.
Organisers have outlined a five-weekend schedule, with racing planned on the National and International layouts at Mondello Park between April and August.
It marks the first time since September 2024 that motorcycle racing events are scheduled at the Kildare circuit, following months of behind the scenes work to resolve an insurance issue.
That issue was addressed at the Motorcycling Ireland AGM in November, clearing the way for a return to racing.
The Masters Superbike Championship calendar was issued last week, with rounds scheduled for April 11/12, May 16/17, June 27/28, July 25/26, and August 15/16.
Despite the confirmed dates, confidence among Kerry competitors remains low.
There are close to 30 motorcycle racers in the county, but only a handful have indicated they plan to race in 2026, and even those remain unconvinced the full season will run as planned.
Tralee based Superbike Cup racer Evan O’Grady said he may take part in some rounds but remains doubtful about the championship going ahead in full.
Killarney SuperTwins rider Stephen Heelan echoed that view, saying he was considering a limited programme but shared similar concerns.
Meanwhile, Ballyduff’s Alex O’Grady, one of four Kerry riders who competed during 2025, he raced in the earlier rounds of the Ulster Superbike Championship, has already decided not to compete next season.
