In a significant move for Irish representation on the world stage, Motorsport Ireland has confirmed the appointment of Clonakilty-based solicitor Niall Geaney to the FIA International Tribunal and the International Court of Appeal.

The announcement was made following the 2025 FIA General Assembly held last Friday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Geaney, a lifelong motorsport enthusiast and a law graduate of the University of Limerick, will now serve on the highest judicial forums for global motorsport disputes.
Geaney is no stranger to the complexities of international racing regulations. He currently serves as the Vice President of the FIA Formula One and Formula E Cost Cap Adjudication panel, a role that has seen him at the forefront of the sport’s most sensitive financial and regulatory oversight.
In his professional life, Niall leads Geaney Solicitors LLP in Clonakilty, Co. Cork, where he specialises in sports disputes and regulations both domestically and internationally.
The FIA International Tribunal and International Court of Appeal act as the final authority for any disputes arising within FIA-sanctioned competitions. Serving as a judge on these panels is widely considered the motorsport equivalent of sitting on a Supreme Court, ensuring fair play and the consistent application of rules across global championships like F1, WRC, and WEC.
Niall’s appointment marks the return of an Irish voice to these prestigious courts, following in the footsteps of the late Reggie Redmond.
