Kerry rally champions to be honoured at open awards night in Keel

Rob Duggan will be presented with the 2025 Moriarty’s Central Car Sales Kingdom of Kerry Rally Championship title this Saturday night when the series prizegiving takes place at The Anvil Bar in Keel. The event is open to competitors, families and supporters from across the county.

Duggan secured the championship after a close season that was decided at the Killarney Historic Rally. His third place finish there proved enough once final points and tie-break rules were applied. Duggan and Colin O’Donoghue both finished the season on 31 points, but Duggan claimed the title thanks to two class wins on the Rally of the Lakes, compared to O’Donoghue’s single class win at the Historic Rally.

Championship sponsor Mike Moriarty said the outcome showed the regulations working as intended. He said that when drivers are tied on points, class wins across the counting rounds provide a clear and fair way to separate them, and that Duggan’s results over the season justified the championship.

O’Donoghue finished runner-up after a strong campaign that included victory in the modified category at the Historic Rally and second place finishes on both days of the Rally of the Lakes. Third overall went to Alan Ring, whose class win on the Sunday of the Rally of the Lakes, combined with a second place the previous day, earned him 22 points.

In the co-drivers’ standings, Kieran O’Donoghue claimed the title with 32 points after two second place finishes and a win alongside Colin O’Donoghue. Ger Conway finished second on 29 points following strong results with Meirion Evans on the Rally of the Lakes and a third place with Duggan on the Historic Rally. Noel O’Sullivan secured third overall after his Sunday class win on the Rally of the Lakes.

The Historic drivers’ title went to Fergus O’Meara after consistent performances across the season. Michelle Hickey claimed the Ladies’ award, having been the only female competitor to contest the required three rounds, competing alongside her father John on the Circuit of Kerry and both days of the Rally of the Lakes.

The Moriarty’s Central Car Sales Kingdom of Kerry Rally Championship remains the only county-based rally championship in Ireland. It is open to members of Kerry Motor Club and Killarney and District Motor Club who are resident in the county. The championship takes its name from the original Kingdom of Kerry Motor Club, which operated in the 1950s and 1960s.

Gold, silver and bronze medals will be presented at Saturday night’s prizegiving at The Anvil Bar in Keel, a midway point between Tralee and Killarney, with all welcome to attend.
