Kerry County Council has reported an increase in people walking, cycling or using scooters in low light without any reflective or high-visibility clothing.

In response, the Council has started distributing hi-viz vests in rural areas. The first batch was handed out to locals in Ballymacelligott this week.

Road Safety Officer Declan Keogh said the trend is worrying and that motorists are often encountering vulnerable road users too late to react safely. He urged anyone using the roads after dark to make themselves visible.

The Road Safety Authority is supporting the campaign and has supplied the Council with additional hi-viz vests for distribution in the coming weeks.
