Rob Duggan has been confirmed as the 2025 Moriarty’s Central Car Sales Kingdom of Kerry Rally Champion after a close season ended with the Killarney Historic Rally.
His third place finish last weekend proved decisive when final points and tie-break rules were applied. Duggan and Colin O’Donoghue finished level on 31 points, but Duggan’s two class wins on the Rally of the Lakes gave him the edge under the championship regulations.
Championship sponsor Mike Moriarty said the rules worked exactly as intended. “When drivers finish level, the fairest way is to look at class wins over the counting rounds,” he said. “Rob had two on the Lakes, Colin had one in the Historic Rally, so the title goes Rob’s way. It’s a clean and straightforward system and it delivered the right result after a very competitive year.”

O’Donoghue pushed hard all season, winning the modified section of the Historic Rally and finishing second on both days of the Rally of the Lakes, but the tie-break meant he had to settle for runner-up. Third place overall goes to Alan Ring, whose class win on the Sunday of the Rally of the Lakes, combined with a second place the previous day, gave him 22 points.
The co-drivers’ title goes to Kieran O’Donoghue, who ends the year on 32 points after two second-place finishes and a win alongside Colin O’Donoghue. Ger Conway finished close behind on 29 points after scoring strongly with Welsh driver Meirion Evans on both Lakes days and adding a third place with Duggan in the Historic Rally. Noel O’Sullivan takes the bronze medal thanks to his Sunday class win on the Rally of the Lakes.
In the Historic category, Fergus O’Meara takes the title after steady scoring throughout the season. The Ladies’ award goes to Michelle Hickey, the only female competitor to contest three rounds as required under championship rules, competing alongside her father John on the Circuit of Kerry and both days of the Rally of the Lakes.
The Moriarty’s Central Car Sales Kingdom of Kerry Rally Championship remains the only county rally championship in Ireland. It is open to members of both Kerry Motor Club and Killarney and District Motor Club who live within the county. The championship name honours the Kingdom of Kerry Motor Club, the first motor club in the county in the 1950s and 60s.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be presented at the prizegiving on December 20 at The Anvil Bar, Keel, the halfway point between both clubs.
