John Coyne has been inducted into the Motorsport Ireland Hall of Fame at the 2025 Champions of Irish Motorsport Awards, held Wednesday at the Crowne Plaza in Santry.

Coyne is one of Ireland’s most accomplished rally competitors. The 1982 Irish Tarmac Rally Champion has taken part in more than 800 events at home and abroad. In 2023 he became the oldest Irish driver to start a World Rally Championship event when he competed on Rally Finland at the age of 73.
In recent years he has also become a major supporter of young Irish talent through his involvement in the Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy, where, as the founder, he plays a key role in mentoring and supporting up-and-coming drivers.
The awards ceremony, supported by Kingfisher Motorsport, gathered competitors, officials and volunteers from across the sport. Speaking afterwards, Motorsport Ireland President Aiden Harper said the event showcased the strength and depth of Irish motorsport, with award recipients ranging in age from seven to 87.
Coyne’s induction recognises both his achievements on the stages and his continued commitment to helping the next generation of Irish competitors.
