Important Notice for Fans Heading to Moll’s Gap – Parking and Road Closure Information
Fans travelling to watch the Killarney Towers Hotel Killarney Historic Rally this weekend, especially those in camper vans aiming for Moll’s Gap, are asked to take note of important safety and road closure instructions.
As most spectators now know, Moll’s Gap will be used three times on Saturday — once uphill in the morning and twice downhill in the afternoon, including a rare run in darkness for the first time in many years. Because the stage will run in opposite directions, safe zones and run-off requirements will change throughout the day.
Parking – Plan Ahead
Spectators arriving early should be careful where they park in the morning. What is acceptable and safe for the uphill morning run may not comply with safety requirements later when the direction reverses.
The stage will be fully closed at 6:45am, and once closed there is no movement of spectator traffic allowed. Anyone not fully parked and in place at least an hour before road closure may be removed to the far end of the stage.
Camper vans intending to stay overnight must also take care where they position themselves.
A clear example is at the Gap itself — morning parking on the Sneem road is acceptable, but in the afternoon that area falls within a required 200-metre run-off zone. Parking will be pushed back that distance for the first run in the morning to ease logistical issues for the afternoon run.
Road Closure Details
SS1 – Molls Gap
Roads closed from 06:45 to 20:00
Route: N71 starting 100m beyond the entrance to Muckross House, via Galway’s Bridge, Moll’s Gap, finishing at Carrig East.
SS8 & SS9 – Molls Gap (Night Runs)
Roads closed for the same period.
Route: N71 starting at Knockrour East / Kilkeana Cross, via Cappamore, Carrig East, Mol’ls Gap, Galways Bridge, Dinis, finishing before Muckross House entrance.
The road will not reopen between runs, and stage setup turnaround time will be tight. Spectator cooperation with marshals is essential.
Marshals Needed

The best way to support the rally is to volunteer as a marshal — you’ll see all three runs from the front line.
