For the first time in its history, the Killarney Towers Hotel Killarney Historic Rally has received an entry from Spain.

The crew of Daniel Alonso and co-driver Alejandro “Jandrín” López will compete in the event following their participation in the RAC Rally in the UK this week.
Daniel Alonso Vilarón , born in 1965, is one of Spain’s most experienced rally competitors. He has raced in both the World Rally Championship and the European Rally Championship and is a multiple Spanish national title winner. Vilarón has enjoyed major success in historic rallying, claiming honours including the Spain Tarmac Cup and the Senior/Spain Gravel Cup. He is also the founder of PAST Racing, based in Asturias.
PAST Racing has recorded strong results across rally and cross-country competition, including winning the Spanish Historic Rally Championship with a Ford Sierra Cosworth 4×4 and securing podiums in the CERT and the Spanish Super Rally Championship. Alonso has competed in both historic and Rally2 machinery, including WRC appearances in Monte Carlo, Sweden and Portugal since 2020.

His co-driver in Killarney will be Alejandro López, the current Spanish Gravel Rally Champion co-driver. López won this season’s title alongside 17-year-old Gil Membrado, who became the youngest ever winner of a national rally championship in Spain. Alonso is a key supporter of Membrado and runs him in a Ford Fiesta Rally2.
Alonso also competed in the European Historic Rally Championship in 2019 and 2021 in a Sierra Cosworth. Their appearance in Killarney is believed to be the first full Spanish crew to enter a rally in Ireland since Dani Sordo and Marc Martí finished second behind Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena at Rally Ireland 2009.
We met them before!
Kerry Motorsport News has followed this crew at several key events in recent years.
Most recently, co-driver Alejandro López Fernando competed at the Rally de La Nucía Mediterráneo – Costa Blanca alongside Andorra’s Joan Vinyes, part of the Spain Superchampionship, driving a Hyundai i20 N Rally2 and finishing eighth overall.
In late 2023, Vilarón and López, appeared at the Rallye Ciudad de Pozoblanco, finishing ninth overall in a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2.
Last year, at the Vodafone Rally de Portugal in the WRC2 category, they retired their Ford Fiesta Rally2 due to mechanical issues.
