EUROPEAN ADVENTURE FUELS RALLY BUG FOR MARK KANE
Tralee-based Tullamore man Mark Kane has confirmed his intentions to tackle more European rallies in 2026 after his recent “adventure” at the Rallye de La Nucía Mediterráneo – Costa Blanca in Spain.

The Tullamore native was back behind the wheel of a rally car for the first time in a decade last weekend, piloting a Hyundai i20 R5 prepared by the Irish-run PCRS Rallysport team. While the two-day tarmac event ultimately ended in a non-finish, Kane’s competitive return reignited his passion for the sport.
The Spanish round of the Superchampionship proved to be a steep learning curve for Kane and his Laois co-driver, Jeff Case. It marked Kane’s first time driving competitively in a left-hand drive car, and featured long, challenging stages that ran into the night.
“If you’re going to wait ten years before getting back behind the wheel of a rally car, you might as well make an adventure out of it,” Kane said, reflecting on the experience. “There was so much going , a very tough recce, the switch to left-hand drive, long stages, even night stages. It was an adventure and an experience, and I definitely want to do more events like this.”

Kane, who was surprisingly seeded high in 15th position for the event, confirmed he plans to stick with the same car and team for any future outings, with the goal of adding more European events to his calendar in 2026.
