Sheeran on the podium at Bishopscourt Sunflower Trophy races

Duagh-based motorcycle racer Mike Sheeran took an impressive third-place finish at the Sunflower Trophy Races in Bishopscourt, County Down, over the long weekend.

In a rare outing for the North Kerry man, he finished third in the Lightweight Supersport class on his BNH Motorcycles Honda RVF400.

The Sunflower Trophy meeting as the final round of the Ulster Superbike championship and Sheeran was the only local rider the make the long trek north.

The popular two-day event, promoted by the Hillsborough Motorcycle Club and held at the Bishopscourt Race Circuit, took place on Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25. The meeting is one of the longest-running and most prestigious short circuit events in Irish motorcycle racing, attracting many of the country’s top riders.

“We did the first round in April. That was all I have done this year, so I was well off my usual pace,” he said.

“We only went up for the craic with no expectations and had a great weekend. It was nice to meet up with the rest of the lads around the paddock.”
