Emotional scenes as Michelle Quinn wins Katie Quinn Memorial Trophy
There were emotional scenes at the finish ramp of the Westlodge Hotel Fastnet Rally in Bantry on Sunday evening after Michelle Quinn was presented with the Katie Quinn Tarmac Queen Memorial Trophy.
Michelle won the Ladies Championship in the Top Part West Coast Rally Series by finishing the West Cork–based event, the final round of the popular regional championship. The cup is named in memory of her late sister Katie Quinn, who passed away in June 2024, and is presented to the highest-placed female crew in the series.
Michelle was co-driven by her cousin Caz Somers, and there were tears and smiles in equal measure as members of the Quinn family gathered at the finish ramp for the presentation. Michelle’s mother Mary Quinn handed her the cup, while her father Mike Quinn, who also competed in the rally, looked on proudly.
It was a deeply emotional but proud moment for the Lyreacrompane family, who said they were honoured to keep Katie’s memory alive in the rallying community.
The Ladies Class in Bantry also included Louise Bourke (Killarney) and Edwin Walsh (Athea) in a Peugeot 206 Cup Car, who recorded another solid finish as they continue to build experience ahead of their third season in the sport.
