Sosanna Ní Dhubháin, who has strong family ties to the West Kerry area, brought an international dimension to the Motorsport Ireland Women in Motorsport Commission networking event held at the Athlone Springs Hotel earlier this month.
Ní Dhubháin, an engineer with the Aston Martin Formula One Team, joined fellow speakers and participants in celebrating the growing role of women across all levels of Irish motorsport.
The event attracted a large crowd of competitors, volunteers, engineers, and enthusiasts from across the country. It celebrated the achievements of women in the sport while also encouraging new participation — from driving and officiating to engineering and technical roles.
An Introduction to Motorsport session, led by Motorsport Ireland Development Officer Kelsey Kirby and Commission member Vicki Gissane, helped newcomers understand how to get involved in the sport.
The keynote speaker for the evening was Kate Beavan, strategic advisor to the More Than Equal initiative, which aims to discover and develop the world’s first female Formula One World Champion. Beavan spoke about how data, training, and mentorship are helping women reach the highest levels of motorsport.
Adding further international input were Josie Rimmer, Head of Strategy and Women in Motorsport Coordinator at DirtFish, and Helen Kagendo from the Women in Motorsport Commission Kenya. Their presence, along with that of Ní Dhubháin from Aston Martin, highlighted the event’s global reach and the growing international network supporting women in the sport.
