Kerry will get nine new electric vehicle (EV) recharging hubs as part of a national plan announced by Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien. The rollout is part of a €10 million investment in 90 new hubs across Ireland.
Two of the Kerry sites will be in Killarney and Rathmore. Hegarty’s Service Station on the N71 in Killarney and Donagh Hickey Motors on the N72 in Rathmore were confirmed in the latest phase of the Light Duty Vehicle (LDV) initiative, operated by Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) and delivered by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
The other Kerry hubs will be located at Garvey’s SuperValu, Castleisland (N23); Kelly’s Top Service Station, Tarbert (N69); Circle K Express, Waterville (N70); Murphy’s SuperValu, Kenmare (N70); Corrib Oil, Kenmare (N71); Keane’s SuperValu, Killorglin (N72); and O’Shea’s Gala, Blennerville (N86).
Each site will include fast recharging points with an average capacity of 250kW. The investment aims to provide a reliable network of charging stations every 30 kilometres along Ireland’s national primary and secondary routes.
The new hubs are expected to be operational by early 2026.
