Kerry presence at Déjà Vu Waterford tribute to Craig Breen and Frank Meagher –

There was a strong Kerry involvement at Déjà Vu Waterford over the weekend, an event run in memory of Craig Breen and Frank Meagher. The rally-style gathering raised funds for the Craig Breen Foundation and the Dungarvan Palliative Care Unit.

The 160-kilometre route took crews from Dungarvan along the Copper Coast, passing through Bonmahon, Kilmurrin Cove, Tramore, and Dunmore East, before stopping at Mount Congreve Gardens for lunch. The convoy later climbed towards Mahon Falls and returned to Dungarvan via the town’s quay and castle.
One of the main attractions was Paul Ahern’s BMW M3 E30, finished in a unique split livery, half in Rentokil Initial colours to mark Craig Breen’s 2022 Killarney Historic Rally victory, and half in Tuff Mac colours to commemorate Bertie Fisher’s 1990 Rally of the Lakes win.
Ahern, from Castleisland, was co-driven by Kieran Murphy, originally from Beaufort and now living in Kilkenny.
There were more Kerry links among the star cars. Paul Nagle and Cavan’s James Fulton shared the Citroën DS3 R5 that Breen used to win the 2016 Circuit of Ireland, the car recently restored to its original specification by KG Motorsport and owned by Andrew Fanning.
Ray Breen, Craig’s father, drove the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS linked to Frank Meagher, the same car Craig and Paul used in the 2022 Killarney Historic Rally, with daughter Kellie Breen co-driving.
The Breen family’s strong Kerry connection was also noted, as Craig’s grandmother was originally from Tralee.
The Peugeot 208 T16 that Breen debuted on the 2014 Circuit of Kerry made a rare public appearance too.
Other Kerry competitors taking part included Mark and Geri Falvey in a Billy Coleman Ford Escort Mk1, and Conor and Catherine Falvey in a Porsche 911 3.0 RS.
John and Johnny O’Sullivan from Killarney drove their usual Mazda RX-7, a regular crew at Déjà Vu events.
Local photographer Ray Corkery was in the passenger seat of a Toyota Celica Austin MacHale replica alongside Michael Lyne from County Meath, who has Ballyheigue family ties.
Sean Tracey from Lisburn was joined by Elaine Ní Shé from Kerry in his Lancia Fulvia.
The event concluded with a Cars and Coffee display in Dungarvan on Sunday morning, where fans had the chance to meet drivers, view the cars up close, and celebrate the memory of two of Ireland’s most admired rallying legends.
