O’Grady Leads Call for Reform with New Irish Short Circuit Superbike Championship
Kerry motorcycle racer Evan O’Grady has produced a proposal to create a new all-Ireland championship for short circuit racing after what he describes as years of poor management and lack of direction by the sport’s governing bodies in both the Republic and Northern Ireland.
The proposed Irish Short Circuit Superbike Championship (ISCSBK) aims to unite riders and circuits under one structure, improve safety standards, and boost promotion of the sport across the island.
O’Grady said the move comes after years of frustration over stagnation in the sport, limited development of facilities, and the decline of competitive racing in the south. The plan outlines a 2026 season featuring six events at Bishopscourt, Kirkistown, and Mondello Park, covering Superbike, Supersport, Sportbike & Twins, and Lightweight Sportbike categories.
A key focus of the proposal is better media coverage, improved safety procedures, and a rider development programme to support emerging talent.
O’Grady is now seeking feedback from competitors and clubs across Ireland before finalising the championship plan.
