Rally Masters weekend will get underway in Castleisland on Friday evening with a special celebration of BMW Motorsport at Ahern’s BMW showroom. The event runs from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and is free to attend.
The focus will be on the legendary BMW M3 E30, with several famous examples on display. Taking centre stage will be GXI 9427, regarded as the most famous M3 in Irish rallying history.
Now owned by Denis Cronin, GXI will be joined by several other M3s in iconic liveries, including a double-sided Tuff Mac/Xtravision design created to honour both Bertie Fisher’s 1990 Rally of the Lakes win and Austin MacHale’s 1990 Galway International Rally success.
A Rothmans-liveried M3 from Billy Coleman’s era will also feature, thanks to overall event sponsor Aidan Long of Eamon Long & Co., a Cork-based plant parts supplier.
A host of drivers connected with BMW’s rallying history are confirmed to attend, including Patrick Snijers and Austin MacHale.
The evening will also feature a Q&A rally forum, hosted by Kerry Motorsport News’ Sean Moriarty, where drivers linked to the BMW M3 will be interviewed on a specially created stage in the showroom.
“This promises to be a memorable start to the Rally Masters weekend, and everyone is welcome to attend,” said Ahern’s BMW Head of Business Paul Ahern
Other well-known competitors travelling to Killarney for Rally Masters are expected to drop in, mingle with fans, and sign autographs.
Outside the showroom, visitors can expect to see more M3 rally cars along with a selection of locally owned BMW classics.
As Ahern’s are also Opel dealers, several Opel rally cars will be on display, including Donagh Kelly’s ex-Vincent Bonner Opel Manta 400.
Just as newspapers and magazines are paid for, digital editorial content will also have to be paid for.
