What exactly did James Coleman let out of the bag at the pre-event ceremonial start of the Wexford Rally last Friday evening?

At the ceremonial start, attended by high-profile figures including Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann Verona Murphy and Mayor of the Borough District of Wexford Garry Laffan, the potential return of the World Rally Championship to Ireland was the main talking point.
Murphy spoke enthusiastically about the idea, while all present – including Kerry Motorsport News’ Sean Moriarty – agreed it would be a major boost to Irish motorsport regardless of whether it went to Tralee, Wexford or elsewhere.
Coleman, however, raised eyebrows.
Driving Ray Breen’s Subaru Impreza as the 00 car for the event, he crossed the ceremonial start ramp and announced to the large crowd that the Wexford Rally could be part of the FIA European Rally Championship in the future.
Whether said in jest or not, Coleman knows how the ERC works.
His son Casey Jay has competed in this year’s ERC and even won an ERC3 round in the Czech Republic. James himself has attended enough international rallies to know the system inside out.
Was Coleman joking to wind up this Kerry man, or hinting at something more?
