Just replace the word Rás with Rally and he might be on to something?

RÁS TAILTEANN

The various routes covered by the Tailteann annual international cycling stage race present a unique opportunity for Ireland to showcase our fantastic scenery to the world, by ensuring it is covered by the larger international TV Sports Channels, according to Kerry TD, Michael Cahill. The Fianna Fáil party Spokesperson on Tourism feels that with Department of Tourism and Fáilte Ireland support, the Rás could be a fantastic means of advertising our towns, villages and countryside to a vast international audience.

“I feel we might be missing a trick here, with the popularity of cycle stage racing all over Europe, drawing a vast television audience, many of whom would not be aware of the beautiful scenery that exists in Ireland. If we could make it attractive to international television sports channels to carry the Rás, the spinoff in added visitor numbers could pay a big dividend” stated Deputy Cahill.

“We can see and we have heard of the impact of televised coverage of the Tour de France and the Tour of Britain and I believe that these types of opportunities must be grasped with both hands and I will be taking this matter up with the relevant Ministers” said Deputy Cahill.

“The benefit to Ireland of international TV coverage of the Rás Tailteann will be enormous” added Michael Cahill TD.
