O’Shea best of Kerry crews in Rathkeale
Vincent O’Shea and Eoin O’Donoghue were the best of the Kerry crews on Sunday’s revived Thomond Rally in Rathkeale. The Kenmare pairing brought their Darrian T90 GTR home in a superb sixth overall and third in class 14, stopping the clocks on 47 minutes 03.5 seconds after the six demanding stages. O’Shea had tipped the Darrian as a car to watch in dry conditions, and so it proved as he delivered one of the strongest Kerry results of the day.
Next best was Meath’s Peter Wilson with Kerry’s John McCarthy on the notes. McCarthy, after a hectic few weeks in the co-driver’s seat, guided Wilson to tenth overall and seventh in class 14 in their Ford Escort.
Denis Hickey and Ronald Riordan (Escort) were not far behind, finishing 12th overall and eighth in class 14 after a solid day’s rallying.
North Kerry’s Tim Enright, with Stephen Buckley, was another strong finisher, placing 17th overall and fourth in class 13 in their Mk2 Escort.
There was Kerry success at the top of the class standings too.
