Ardfert’s Walsh relishes Classic Manx Grand Prix challenge

Ardfert road racer Stephen Walsh is relishing the chance to test himself against some of the biggest names in the sport at this month’s Classic Manx Grand Prix.

Walsh will compete in both the Historic Junior TT and Historic Senior TT from August 17 to 25. He will line up on his Honda 500 in the Senior and his Honda 350 in the Junior.

The entry list for the Senior Classic TT features some of the sport’s best-known riders, including John McGuinness, Dean Harrison, Jamie Coward and Conor Cummins.

Walsh arrived on the Isle of Man on Sunday ahead of his first laps of the famous 37-mile course, which begin with practice sessions on Wednesday.

Speaking ahead of the event, he paid tribute to the many people who have supported his campaign, from sponsors and mechanics to fellow riders who have shared advice on tackling the demanding Mountain Course.

“It’s a massive undertaking to get to the island and it wouldn’t be possible without all the help I get from so many people. I’m very grateful and I can’t wait to get back out there and, please God, get my finish this year,” he said.

Mike Browne, seeded ninth, is the top rider from the Republic of Ireland in the Senior Classic TT.

The Classic TT runs alongside the modern Manx Grand Prix.
