On Sunday, attention switches to Oldcastle in County Meath for the return of the GK Print ALMC Hellfire Rally, round six of the Triton Showers Motorsport Ireland National Rally Championship.
The event is also a counting round of the Top Part West Coast Rally Championship, the Sligo Pallets Border Championship, and the new Dacia Sandero Challenge Cup.
The rally returns after a two-year break and features classic stages in Meath and Westmeath, including two not used in over 15 years and the legendary Mullaghmeen stage.
It is a busy weekend for co-driver McCarthy, who is also entered for Sunday’s ALMC Hellfire Rally, alongside Peter Wilson from Kells in a Ford Escort,
He is the highest-placed Kerry co-driver in the Top Part West Coast Rally Championship, with points scored in classes 13 and 14 leaving him seventh overall
Dave Slattery and Denis Coffey are the seeded top all-Kerry crew in Oldcastle.
Lyreacrompane’s Mike Quinn is back in his Ford Escort Mk2 with Kieran Doherty in the passenger seat while Denny Greaney from Castleisland navigates for Ronan Campbell in another Escort.
Michelle Quinn, also from Lyreacrompane, leads Class 2A of the Top Part series with Knocknagoshel’s Caz Somers in a Honda Civic.
Ger Somers from Rathmore will partner Raymond Spence in a Ford Escort Mk2. Knocknagoshel’s Ian Horgan is entered in a Toyota Corolla Twin Cam with Gary Lombard, while Ardfert’s Dermot Flynn will call the notes for John Shaw in a BMW Mini Cooper S.
