A look back at last weekend’s Ballymac Car Run

Ballymac Vintage Club hosts 15th annual Classic Car & Honda 50 Run

Ballymac Vintage Club held its 15th annual Classic Car and Honda 50 Run on Sunday, August 3rd, starting with a cars & coffee morning at O’Riadas Bar & Restaurant in Ballymacelligott.

Over 120 vehicles were registered for the event, with classic cars and motorbikes drawing crowds for a morning of catching up, looking back and sharing stories.

This year’s run was dedicated to founding member Lucy Breen, who, along with George Glover and John Breen, helped set up the run 15 years ago. Lucy was well known across Kerry and Cork’s vintage scene for her distinctive yellow 1973 Rover 2000.

The 2025 Kerry Rose, Laura Daly from Ballymac, was on hand to pick her two favourite cars for spot prizes. She was joined by local girl Sophie Horan, who will represent Queensland as a Rose Bud at this year’s Rose of Tralee.

Proceeds from the day will go to Tralee Community Hospital — where Lucy Breen received outstanding care — and to Scoil Nuachabháil, the local national school.

The convoy took in a scenic route through Castleisland, stopping off in Brosna village before finishing up at the Community Centre in Knocknagoshel, where the local Meals on Wheels team provided refreshments.

Main sponsors included BG Motors Killarney, Browne’s Agri Steel & Builders Providers, and O’Riadas Bar & Restaurant, alongside many other local businesses who gave generous spot and raffle prizes worth over €1,000.

Spot prize winners on the day included Gerard Healy, Pat Moriarty, Michael Crean, Joe McCarthy, Michael Cahill, Tom Cotter, Margaret Raggett, Sean O’Sullivan, Mike Power, Mike McDonnell, Vera Quirke, Brendan Howard, Richard Manning, Philip Blennerhassett, Tom Fealy and Tommy Scanlon. Raffle winners were Pat Brosnan and Mossy Leen.

The club thanked Lucy’s family, friends and neighbours, An Garda Síochána, Brosna Church, and everyone who helped and supported the day.

Online donations can be made for a few more days for anyone that wishes to do so: https://www.gofundme.com/f/tralee-community-hospital-ballymac-vintage-club-fundraiser.

Their next event will be a Tractor, Car & Motorbike Run on Sunday 21st September from the Halfway Bar in Ballymac.
