Athea club founder Dalton running for top MCI role
Mike Dalton, one of the founders of the Athea Road Racing Club, is putting his name forward for the role of Finance Director on the Board of Directors of Motorcycling Ireland (MCI).
Dalton, originally from Athea and now living in Templeglantine, has been involved in motorcycling since his teens and was one of the key people behind setting up the Athea Road Racing Club in 2001.
He became President of the club in 2022 when it was reformed as the Southwest Motorcycle Road Racing Club
“Motorcycles have been a lifelong passion of mine,” Dalton said. “I’m very much a roll-up-your-sleeves kind of person, and I take pride in doing whatever is needed to make events successful.”
Dalton works as Transport Manager for a busy waste transport company and says his background in financial reporting and compliance will help him in the MCI role.
Dalton is part of a wider group of nominees aiming to bring change at MCI. He worked alongside others who helped form the Road Racing Alliance of Ireland this year, which tried to revive road racing in the Republic, including a strong but unsuccessful effort to get the Athea races back on the calendar.

Also running for board positions at the MCI AGM on November 9 are Paul McMahon (President) and Stacey Wogan (PRO/Media).
Wogan was involved in the successful fundraiser for Anthony O’Carroll in Ballyduff last September, which drew support from some of Ireland’s top riders.
