
Imokilly Rally: Kerry crews in East Cork
Kerry competitors were well represented at Sunday’s Imokilly Rally in East Cork, with several local co-drivers and crews delivering strong performances on the day.
Currow’s John McCarthy guided Cavan’s Peter Wilson to an excellent sixth overall in their Ford Escort, taking third in Class 14 after a trouble-free run through the East Cork lanes.
Vincent O’Shea kept his Southern Four Rally Championship hopes alive with another solid drive.
He and co-driver Eoin O’Donoghue brought their Darrian T90 GTR home in seventh overall and fourth in Class 14.
Denis Hickey and Ronald O’Riordan also flew the flag for the Kingdom, finishing tenth. In their Ford Escort Mk2.
Cork’s Allen Treacy, with Brian Duggan from the Healy Pass on the notes, finished seventeenth overall and third in Class 13 in their Toyota Corolla GT, a strong result on the tight, technical roads.
Tim Enright and Stephen Buckley were just a few places behind, claiming 20th overall and fifth in Class 13 in another Escort Mk2, while David Randles and Aidan Kennedy took their Peugeot 208 Rally 4 to 27th overall and third in Class 2 after a clean run.
Fergus Hurley and Castleisland co-driver Denny Geaney enjoyed a class win in 11R, bringing their Ford Escort to the finish in 35th place overall.
Rounding out the Kerry finishers, Limerick’s Eamon Daly had Killarney co-driver John Falvey on the notes and the Toyota Starlet crew finished tenth in class 13
