Plenty for everyone at Ahern’s : BYD open day
Kerry Motorsport News was invited to the BYD Kerry Open Day in Castleisland on Friday.
This is the latest addition to Ahern’s of Castleisland motor group, which officially took on the BYD franchise in late 2024 and opened its new showroom in the presence of Spin South West and the Kerry Ladies Football team on Friday.
Kerry Motorsport News got behind the wheel of a BYD Seal, testing it along the Castleisland bypass with one simple verdict: “Instant power and you can feel the car regenerating when decelerating, a real driver’s car.”
The BYD Seal starts from around €45,435 for the Design rear‑wheel‑drive trim, rising to roughly €54,000–€55,000 for the twin‑motor all‑wheel drive Excellence version offering 530 bhp and capable of 0‑100 km/h in about 3.8 seconds .
Range estimates reach up to 570 km for the RWD model and around 520 km for 4WD, made possible by an 82‑kWh Blade Battery built on BYD’s e‑Platform.
Rumour has it one well‑known Kerry rally driver has already bought a Seal as his daily driver.
But Ahern’s Castleisland isn’t just BYD.

In their Renault showroom, we spotted an electric Renault 5 – a retro throwback to the 1970s and ’80s French icon.
In the Opel section, a rare 1930s Kadet, evidence that they are indeed one of Ireland’s longest-serving Opel dealers.

And the parts department provided solid advice on sourcing classic Opel parts for Kerry Motorsport News’s own Youngtimer Vectra project.
Ahern’s also sells BMWs and Dacia under one roof so there is plenty for everyone on the Tralee Road.
