Athea Road Races cancelled

Athea Road Races cancelled
The dream of reviving the Athea Road Races is over for now after the organising club confirmed that this year’s planned event will not go ahead.
South West Road Racing Athea issued a statement confirming that the 2025 event, scheduled for September, has been cancelled.
The club pointed to ongoing developments involving the Road Racing Alliance of Ireland, Motorcycling Ireland, the Minister for Sport, and Sport Dispute Solutions Ireland.
While the club welcomed the positive steps being made to secure the future of motorcycle sport in the Republic, it acknowledged that these processes are still ongoing and out of its control.
As a result, it made the “difficult decision” to pull the plug on this year’s race.
In its statement, the club thanked its members, supporters, and the local community for their patience and understanding during what it described as uncertain times.
“These events were necessary in order to introduce the initial steps required to secure the future of all motorcycle sports in the Republic of Ireland,” said the club statement.
“While these events were completely outside of our control, South West Road Racing Athea welcomes the positive measures which have emanated from them and accepts that it will take time for MCI to finalise a programme for the implementation of these measures.
There is hope that once national-level issues are resolved, the event could be rescheduled in the future.
