The funeral of Mike Gaine, a well-known figure in the Kerry rallying community, will take place this Saturday in Kenmare.

His friends from local rally circles have prepared his Ford Escort Mk2, which will lead a procession around Kenmare town following the Requiem Mass.

The Killarney and District Motor Club (KDMC) will provide a guard of honour for Mr. Gaine.

This will take place on Saturday morning after the 10:30 am Mass outside the Holy Cross Church in Kenmare.

KDMC members attending are asked to bring a black armband or KDMC high-visibility vest if they have one.

Members available to help are asked to contact Diarmuid Lynch.

Mr. Gaine, formerly of Railway Road, Kenmare, was a respected member of both the farming and rallying communities. He is sadly missed by his wife Janice, sisters Noreen and Catherine, nieces Emma and Rachel, nephews Jamie and Mark, and brother-in-law Seán, along with his wider circle of friends.

His remains will  arrive at Holy Cross Church, Kenmare, in time for 10:30am Requiem Mass, which will be livestreamed.

A private resting place has been arranged.

The family has requested family flowers only, with donations, if desired, to Kerry Mountain Rescue and SARDA (Search and Rescue Dog Association).
