Four originals mark 50th Anniversary of Circuit of Kerry

Saturday’s 50th anniversary road run of the Circuit of Kerry had a special touch of history when four competitors from the original 1975 event were in attendance.
Driver Eddie Cronin and co-drivers Tom O’Brien, JP Brick and Dick McCarthy were all on the entry list for the first Circuit of Kerry held on May 18, 1975.

Eddie Cronin, Tom O’Brien and Dick McCarthy, three competitors who contested the original Circuit of Kerry in 1975 at the Kerry Motor Club’s commemorative road run on Saturday.

Cronin and O’Brien took part in Saturday’s run, retracing the original route, while Brick and McCarthy were at the Rose Hotel for the start.
The commemorative event followed many of the roads used five decades ago including Camp Mountain, Short Mountain and Mount Eagle all of which went on to become regular stages on Kerry Motor Club’s flagship rally.
The run set off from the Rose Hotel at 11:30am and returned there just after 4:30pm, with breaks in Farranfore and Lyracrompane along the way. Close on 50 cars and 100 members took part in the special anniversary event.
A club social night followed at Sean Og’s in Tralee.
