Duggan and McCarthy lead the County Championship after Rally of the Lakes
By Sean Moriarty

The Moriarty’s Central Car Sales Kingdom of Kerry Rally Championship was turned on its head following the recent Rally of the Lakes.
Defending champions and early championship leaders Tommy Mason and Paul McGlinchy’s Ford Escort suffered engine problems on the second day and failed to finish the event.
However, a class win on Saturday meant they did salvage some points and head into the final round – the Killarney Historic Rally – in fifth place.
Rob Duggan’s brace of class wins over the two days propelled him and his navigator John McCarthy into the lead.
Darren Young and Alan Ring are in joint-second place.
Honda Civic driver Young, a former champion, took second place on Saturday and won his class on Sunday.
Ring, driving a BMW M3, put in a similar performance in the historic section over the two days and both drivers are now on 21 points each, just one point behind Duggan.
Young’s co-driver, Pa Lawlor is second.
There is a three-way tie for third place in the co-driver’s championship with Kieran O’Donoghue, Ger Conway and Noel O’Sullivan all sharing the spoils.
Colin O’Donoghue is the fourth-placed driver following his two second place finishes in Killarney over the May weekend.
