Mossey Stack RIP – local rally driver who contested the first Circuit of Kerry in 1975

Mossey Stack, a former member of Kerry Motor Club and a well-known rally driver of his time has passed away.
Mossie’s rallying career began in the early 1970s, with his first recorded rally in 1973. He drove a Ford Cortina Mk2, with the late Liam Nolan (and Kerry Motor Club founder) as his navigator.
Many will remember Mossie’s connection to The Brogue Inn on Rock Street.
At the time, the pub was being renovated, and Mossie worked there as a carpenter for the then owner, Mike Brennan.
Mike also owned another establishment in Waterford called Katie Reily’s Kitchen, which became the main sponsor of Mossie’s rally car.
Mossie’s later acquired Adrian Boyde’s Ford Escort Mk1 GT1300, a car that had previously won the Circuit of Ireland in 1971.
In 1975, Mossie started the first Circuit of Kerry Rally at number 28, navigated by TP (Tom) O’Brien, driving his red Mk1 Escort.
He competed again in the Circuit of Kerry in 1976, this time navigated by J. Moor, and his Escort was now powered by a 1600 engine.
