After being forced to miss the Cookstown 100 two weeks ago due to a delay in getting crucial parts, Tralee motorcycle racer Darragh Crean is finally set to make his long-awaited debut at the North West 200 this week.

The Kerry man will line up on the famous 14.3-kilometre “Triangle” course, which links Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine in County Derry. It’s one of the fastest road racing circuits in the world -second only to the Isle of Man TT – with the current lap record held by Glenn Irwin at a blistering 202.4km/h (125.779mph).

Crean will compete in both the Supertwin and Supersport classes, riding an Elcofire-backed Aprilia and a Triumph prepared by DJ Racing.

Speaking ahead of the event, Darragh said he’s eager to finally get his season underway:

“I’ve been waiting a few years to get the nod to race at the North West 200, and now that it’s finally happening, I’m absolutely buzzing. This is one of the fastest and most challenging circuits out there. I know the Aprilia well, but the Triumph is new to me and it’s spot on for a course like this.”

He’s had some track time already, having tested in Spain and at Kirkistown, and took part in the official North West 200 newcomers’ days in the build-up to this week’s action.

Team Principal Danny Breen added: “We’re all really looking forward to getting going now. Qualifying runs on Wednesday and Thursday, with four races across Thursday evening and Saturday, so it’ll be a hectic few days. Hopefully the weather stays on our side and we have a safe and successful week.”
