Rally of the Lakes drivers to carry stickers in support of missing local man
All rally cars competing in this weekend’s Rally of the Lakes will carry special stickers in support of the search for missing Kenmare man Michael Gaine.
The stickers will read:
“MIKE GAINE – HELP BRING HIM BACK – ONE OF OUR OWN – RALLY OF THE LAKES 2025.”
Michael, a great supporter of motorsport in Kerry and a former competitor remains missing since March 20.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Michael was a familiar sight on the stages behind the wheel of his Ford Escort Mk2.
His ties to the Rally of the Lakes are even stronger — his family farm spans both sides of the famous Moll’s Gap stage, with the farmyard visible on the right-hand side of the road just five corners from the finish.
Background
Michael Gaine (56) was last seen in Kenmare town on Thursday, March 20. CCTV shows he bought phone credit in Centra, Kenmare at 9.48am before leaving in his bronze Toyota RAV4 (registration 152-KY-366). The vehicle was later found parked in his farmyard at Carrig East, just off the N71.
Michael is described as being approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a stocky build, brown/grey hair and a bushy beard. He was last seen wearing an orange woolly hat, black fleece, blue jeans, and black boots.
Since his disappearance, Gardaí have launched a major search operation coordinated from Killarney Garda Station. They have been assisted by Civil Defence units from Kerry and Cork, Irish Coast Guard teams, Kerry Mountain Rescue, the Search and Rescue Dog Team, Irish Defence Forces personnel, and over 200 civilian volunteers.
Despite exhaustive efforts — including daily searches of land, water sources and forested areas around Carrig East — there have been no confirmed sightings of Michael since the morning he went missing.
Investigators continue to appeal for information, particularly from anyone who travelled on the N71 or in the Moll’s Gap / Kenmare area on March 20 or 21 and who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage.
Anyone with information, no matter how small, is urged to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 6671160, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda station./
