Ballyduff rider O’Grady to race legend Dunlop at Kirkistown
Local motorcycle racer Alex O’Grady from Ballyduff will have a rare chance to compete against road racing legend Michael Dunlop at Kirkistown on Easter Monday.
With motorcycle racing currently suspended in the Republic of Ireland, O’Grady has entered the Ulster Superbike Championship (USBK) this season.
He recently competed in the first round of the USBK and won both Supersport Cup B races on his Suzuki GSXR.
Belfast and District Motor Club Ltd confirmed this week that Dunlop will be racing at Kirkistown for round three on Easter Monday.
Dunlop is set to compete in both the Superbike and Supersport races, riding a BMW M1000RR in the Superbike class and a Ducati Panigale V2 in the Supersport class.
O’Grady will line up against Dunlop in the Supersport qualifying session on Monday morning and if he can carry his Bishopscourt pace in the Kirksitown meeting he will certainly share grid space with the Isle of Man TT’s most decorated rider later in the day.
O’Grady is also scheduled to race in the second round of the USBK this Saturday at Bishopscourt.
The Motor Cycle Road Racing Club of Ireland (MCRRCI) is hosting the 49th Enkalon Trophy event. This traditional Easter race will feature Superbike Pro riders competing for the Enkalon Trophy.
Another local rider, Stephen Walsh, will be participating in the classic races on Saturday, hoping for a better outing after experiencing clutch problems in the previous round.
