Electric car class included in Rally of the Lakes for first time
For the first time, the Rally of the Lakes will include an electric car class.
The cars will compete over the two runs famous Moll’s Gap stage.
Plans are at an early stage but Kerry Motorsport News understands that the electric cars will be charged overnight and then start the rally before the main field.
They’ll run the Moll’s Gap stage, and once they reach the finish in Kenmare, they’ll recharge at a local hotel’s charging point.
Then, they’ll drive the road section and repeat the Moll’s Gap stage.
The electric cars will be timed over their two runs on Moll’s Gap.
There’s a lot of interest in this new class. Opel Motorsport from Germany is expected to bring some of their ADAC Opel E-Corsa Electric Cup cars.
A Jaguar racing car, previously used in UK circuit events, is also set to compete, provided they can install a second seat and comply with other scrutiny regulations.
The move was confirmed today, April1, which of course is Fool’s Day!
