Stephen Walsh Takes Motorsport Psychology Course on the Road

Dr. Stephen Walsh, a lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, recently expanded his “Psychology, Performance, and Leadership in Motorsport” course beyond its initial location in Tralee.

The course, which focuses on the mental aspects of motorsport, was first launched in January in collaboration with Kerry Motor Club.

Last week, Dr. Walsh conducted a two-hour session at Mulvany’s Fingal House in Dunboyne, catering to a group of classic bike racing enthusiasts. The session covered key topics such as focus, concentration, stress and anxiety management, visualization, and mental rehearsal.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive.
One participant remarked, “We think we have a fair idea on the mental aspect of racing motorcycles, but in fact, we are leaving an awful lot on the table.”

Dr. Walsh’s course aims to help motorsport competitors understand and optimize their mental game, ultimately leading to improved performance on the track. The success of the Dunboyne session suggests that there is a strong demand for this type of training within the motorsport community.

A nationwide tour is to be launched later this year. If your club wants Dr. Walsh to make a presentation email news@kerrymotorsportnews.com and we will forward the details
