Emotional tribute paid to late Katie Quinn at West Coast Rally Championship awards

An emotional tribute was paid to the late Katie Quinn at the Top Part West Coast Rally Championship Awards in Loughrea, County Galway on Saturday night.

Katie from Listowel, tragically passed away on June 13 at University Hospital Kerry, leaving her family and friends heartbroken.

The awards ceremony, celebrating the 31st year of the championship sponsored by Tralee motor factor group Top Part, saw a large gathering of over 200 people.

A poignant video produced by Flying Finn Motorsport was played to the audience, resulting in a moving standing ovation.

“It was a very touching moment,” said championship official Richard Talbot from Tralee.

In a heartfelt gesture, the existing Top Part West Coast Rally Championship ladies cup was presented to the Quinn family to keep forever.

Katie was a double winner of the trophy – the only driver to ever win it twice – and often joked it was her trophy.

A new trophy, named the ‘Katie Quinn Forever the Tarmac Queen Trophy’ was unveiled to replace the original.

This new trophy was  awarded to Tipperary driver Grainne Caplice for her outstanding performances in Class 10 in her Vauxhall Nova last season.

Kerry Motor Club officials Christina Fealy, Emma O’Shea, and Sean Hegarty were also recognised for their invaluable contributions to the championship’s final round, the Kerry Winter Rally, which took place last November.
