There was plenty of Kerry interest in the Cork Rallysprint near Nad.
Brian Duggan guided Alan Shinnors to third overall in a Mitsubishi Lancer E6.
Brian’s brother Sean won class 2B alongside Alan’s brother Timo in a Peugeot 208 R2.
Three Kerry-based crews took part in the Junior 1000 category for 14-17-year-olds.
Debutant James Spillane had an impressive first day out taking third place in the category in a newly built Seat Mii. He had the experienced Maurice McElligott alongside.
David Slattery Jr and Ger Somers were 13th in the class in their Hyundai i10.
Frank Wharton was ninth in the junior class in his Toyota Aygo with his father Cyril co-driving.
Cyril finished third in his class in his usual Subaru Impreza. He has Killarney Historic Rally clerk of the course Anthony O’Connor on pacenote duty. It was his first ever competitive event after years as an organiser. “Things happen awful fast,” he said.
Wharton was the only Kerry competitor double-jobbing.
Co-driver Denny Greany was on co-driving duty for brothers Kevin and Niall Dempsey as they shared a Peugeot 208 and a navigator.
Greany had the unique distinction of finishing ninth and tenth in the class.
Damian Price was also double co-driving in a Ford Fiesta Rally 4 that was shared by Liam Ryan and Jack Fennessy.
Ryan was eighth in the class and Fennessey finished tenth despite gearbox issues throughout the day.
