Tie break decides Kingdom of Kerry Rally Championship

The Moriarty Central Car Sales Kingdom of Kerry Rally Championship concluded in a thrilling tie-break, with Tommy Mason and Paul McGlinchey emerging as the overall winners.

Colin O’Donoghue and Kieran O’Donoghue finished second, but the championship ultimately came down to a technicality.

Both crews were neck-and-neck after five rounds, tied on points. However, due to a rule favouring the competitor with the higher number of starts the title was awarded to Mason and McGlinchey.

Despite the disappointment, O’Donoghue displayed remarkable sportsmanship, and was willing to share the title with his rivals.

He said: “Tommy is a point ahead, and the funny thing is that we were on a tie-break. I told Kieran I was actually going to share the overall title with Tommy.”

Other notable results include Alan Ring finishing third in the drivers’ section, and Eoin O’Donoghue securing third place in the co-drivers’ section. Mark Falvey claimed the Historic champion title, Megan Costello won the Ladies award, and David Slattery Jr. took the Junior 1000 title.

The final non-scoring round will be held on December 27th at the Anvil Bar in Keel, where the overall champions will be officially presented with their trophies.
